RACE

2021 GREAT PACIFIC START DATE 31 MAY 2021

THE NEW GUINNESS WORLD RECORD HOLDERS
60 days 17 hours 6 minutes
We did it!  The Girls Who Dare, three women, who have never rowed before, took on the Great Pacific Race and set a new world record for the Women’s Classic Trio in a race across the Pacific Ocean. Journeying from San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge to the Waikīkī Yacht Club in Honolulu, together we rowed 2,400 miles in just 60 days and 13 hours – beating the world record by over two days.
We are, Vicki Anstey, Orlagh Dempsey, and Jane Leonard, and we left San Francisco on May 31, taking shifts rowing four hours on and two hours off for 24 hours a day. Not only was this our first time ever rowing, but it was also their first experience rowing together as a team.
So far, we have raised over £90k to split between three charities, each focusing on different issues faced by young girls.  Inspiring Girls International is dedicated to connecting young girls with female role models and leaders, while Harlequins Foundation is committed to creating opportunities for young girls to play sports. Mates in Mind, the third benefactor, breaks the stigma surrounding discussions about mental health and supports young people who struggle with mental health.
Our motivation is to create a world where everyone can feel empowered to “DREAM, DARE, DO.”  There is still time to support our campaign!

The Crew

We are Girls Who Dare; a team of women who, in June 2021, will set off from California to row 4,000 kilometres across the Pacific Ocean to Honolulu, Hawaii.
We have been brought together by our passion for adventure and our drive and determination. We are united by our passion for sport and understanding what it is to push our human potential, both  physically and mentally.
We want to inspire others to dream big, dare to set challenges and push their way out of their comfort zone. We want to encourage others to reap the life long benefits to body and mind that sport can bring.
To support this challenge and to inspire as many girls and women as possible, we need your help.

The Journey

The Race With a distance of 2400 nautical miles, the Great Pacific Race is one of the toughest races on earth. Teams made up of 3 or 4 crew, all competing in two different race classes (Classic and Open), will be entirely self supported and unassisted from the start gun in San Francisco until the finish line in Hawaii.
