Fiona has spent a considerable amount of her career to date in operations for FMCG companies. She started out on the Mars graduate training scheme where she was put in charge of a factory at the age of 25. This was a huge learning curve and taught her many lessons in managing people who were all much more experienced and knowledgeable in operations than she was. Fiona soon realised that the best and most enjoyable way to succeed was to get the best out of the people around her, and this has been her approach to management and leadership ever since.
More recently Fiona worked at innocent drinks as part of the leadership team – initially as head of group supply chain operations and then head of group supply strategy and change. She was responsible for the strategy required and execution of the plan to develop the supply chain to meet the rapid growth of innocent across Europe. Whilst at innocent her focus on people continued and this was recognised with the companywide leadership award for “best direction”.
Nowadays Fiona is self-employed and enjoys the freedom, flexibility and variety that this offers. She uses her extensive experience from years of corporate employment to help other businesses with their operations and other general advice. She also coaches individuals and speaks about her adventures. Alongside this she is studying for an MSc in Leadership Narrative – an area she is passionate about. This year she gained her yachtmaster qualification which she has had commercially endorsed, enabling her to work as a skipper in the sailing world. Having had her own photography business previously she still dabbles in that occasionally too.
